There is not a number on the thermometer that is a worry for fully vaccinated children 3 months or older. In fact, fever is helpful to make the immune system work better. But it feels bad, right?

How To Help Your Child

Do

  • Children’s ibuprofen (generic Motrin or Advil) – preferred, Children’s acetaminophen (Tylenol)  – These meds can be given at the same time up to every 6 hours. Use this formula or see Over the Counter Pain/Fever Relief chart below. Weight in kg /2 or Weight in lbs/4.4 = mls of med.

  • Hot bath or shower – a little hotter than the child’s temperature. When the water feels hot to the child that means their temperature is coming down.

  • Give the child plenty of fluids – water is best.

Don’t

  • Don’t give the child over the counter cough/cold medicine
