Unfortunately, babies are good at rolling right off of a bed or falling off of other surfaces the second you turn your head or just blink. Most babies will cry right away upon falling but can be soothed after a few minutes. If your baby is easily soothed that is a good sign that they are okay. Most babies bounce back very quickly and will likely act like nothing happened.

How To Help Your Child

Do

  • First calm your baby down– they are feeling as scared as you!

  • After calming them down take a look at them to note any bumps, lumps, scratches that need first aid and magic kisses.

  • If they are just irritable with other “when to worry” signs you can give them Children’s ibuprofen (generic Motrin or Advil) – preferred, Children’s acetaminophen (Tylenol)  – These meds can be given at the same time up to every 6 hours. Use this formula or see Over the Counter Pain/Fever Relief entry. Weight in kg /2 or Weight in lbs/4.4 = mls of med.

Don’t

  • Don’t beat yourself up. Head bonks are super common.
