Heartburn can be caused by constipation (dry or hard stool), stress, some medications.

How To Help Your Child

Do

  • Monitor constipation/pooping habits

  • More high fiber foods

  • More water

  • Monitor the symptoms and food intake (what they ate, when and how much) and times of meals/snacks, and times of the complaints

  • Add a probiotic if not already on one.

  • For symptom relief:

    • Calcium carbonate (tums, rolaids)
    • 2-3 baby carrots

Don’t Give Them

  • Soda/Juice

  • Processed carbohydrates (stuff made with flour, sugar, cornmeal, etc)

  • Low fiber foods (like rice or peeled white potatoes)

  • High fat foods- cheese, processed meals

  • Food to which the child has some sensitivity/allergy

  • Food/Drink high in acid
